Social Credit Scores Coming to Spokane?
by Shari Dovale
The Spokane Regional Health District has a 12-member board that includes Spokane County Commissioner, Mary Kuney. During their recent “Covid Recovery” meeting, streamed live on YouTube on July 21st, Kuney went full Marxist and suggested using the populace to surveil and punish the businesses that would not follow their edicts.
During her diatribe about how to get the people of Spokane to follow her mandate, she talked about how she goes out to businesses just to see who is following the orders and who is not.
“I have gone out to several restaurants to see who has made it right and who has made it wrong,” Kuney admitted.
She suggested that an APP be developed for these business to get rated by customers to show if they are following the orders that her Board has demanded. This idea has come straight out of Communist China and their implementation of a “Social Credit Score” and that is for what Kuney is advocating.
China’s “Social Credit System” Will Rate How Valuable You Are as a Human
This actually sounds worse than an Orwellian nightmare.
A citizen’s score affects their eligibility for a number of services, including the kinds of jobs or mortgages they can get, and it also impacts what schools their children qualify for. In this respect, the SCS resembles one of the most chilling episodes from Black Mirror’s third season.
It may sound a bit like ‘YELP for Covid’, but it could easily go way beyond. This would be controlled and directed by the government, and restrictions placed on private businesses based on someone’s retaliation, if they chose.
More of the government picking winners and losers, and all based on her interpretation of what is right and what is wrong. Additionally, there would be a natural progression from business to individual.
This science-denier has based her ideas on personal beliefs, not on science, or even what the Surgeon General has stated.
Surgeon general: Data doesn’t back up wearing masks in public amid coronavirus pandemic
U.S. Surgeon General Jerome Adams said that “the data doesn’t show” that wearing masks in public will help people during the coronavirus pandemic.
Do you need a mask? The science hasn’t changed, but public guidance might
While the science behind whether masks can prevent a person from catching the coronavirus hasn’t changed (a mask does not help a healthy person avoid infection), public guidance may be shifting.
When asked, Washington State Representative Matt Shea responded,
“Spokane County Commissioner Mary Kuney advocates for a social credit score system for local businesses (like Communist China). Can someone tell me in what universe this is ok to advocate Chinese Communist style policies? How is this different from a Marxist Democrat?”
