Why Do ‘We The People’ Need To Be Informed?

Throughout the recorded history of man, those who ruled over their people were not elected to that position by the people. They were kings or dictators placed there by war or by strength. In other words, the people were the subjects of rulers who were not placed there by the will or consent of the people.
The United States of America, on the other hand, is a radically different social experiment from previous governments since the government is based upon the consent of the People and the People elect their governors and presidents.
Found in the Preamble of the US Constitution are the words, “We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, ensure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.”
Granted, the United States of America is NOT perfect. NO human government is, because people are not perfect and our elected officials are not perfect. Yet, with the Constitution as its’ basis, the United States of America gives the freedom (and responsibility) to the People to choose peacefully who their elected officials are.
It is important to understand that the Constitution of the United States is the supreme law of the United States of America. ALL law in the United States originates from the words found in this Constitution. ANY law that violates the Constitution is ILLEGAL and must not be obeyed.
Within our Constitution are checks and balances to prevent our nation from devolving into tyranny. The US Supreme Court is supposed to compare laws that are legislated by the Congress with the US Constitution. If a law is created by the Legislature and the Supreme Court determines that law is unconstitutional, then it is to be ignored.
We must remember that the Supreme Court does NOT MAKE law! That is the job of the Legislature! The President does NOT make law! That is the job of the Legislature!
The President signs legislation passed by Congress (TWO Houses: Senate and the House of Representatives) into law. The Supreme Court determines if that law is Constitutional or not. If it IS Constitutional, then we are required to obey it. If not, we are not to obey it. Simple, right? Well, leave it to men to muck things up. That’s why we have so many problems in the United States today.
Moving on: As I just mentioned, we have TWO Houses in Congress. The Senate and House of Representatives. These two check and balance each other out. The President checks and balances out the Congress; or, at least he/she should.
Finally, we have certain Amendments in our Constitution that are to balance out the government. First, the to a free press, the right to free assembly and worship. The First Amendment guarantees by the free press that the People are informed of what is going on in their government. The Press should (and I emphasize SHOULD) expose corruption within the government. If there is no freedom of the press, then the right of the People to know is diminished. If the press becomes complicit with corruption in the government, then the People will be deceived and make incorrect choices as to who to elect (or re-elect) as their representatives in the government. The Press then simply becomes the propaganda arm of the government and the old saying, “Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely” becomes true. Adolf Hitler was able to get away with much evil because Joseph Goebbels was a very effective propaganda minister.
The freedom to assemble in the First Amendment gives the people the right to get together to protest (NOTE: I did NOT say RIOT, LOOT, commit ARSON or Kill) should the government fall into corruption.
The freedom to worship allows American citizens the right to worship (or not) as they see fit. The State does not dictate what faith a person believes.
Now to the Second Amendment. It is ALSO a check and a balance to a government that is moving to tyranny. Should the US government exceed its’ designated boundaries as specified in the US Constitution, it is the right of the People to overthrow that government and establish a government that is responsive to the People.
Our Declaration of Independence puts it succinctly,
“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.–That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, –That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.”
If the People are DISARMED by the government, they will not have the means to throw it off. The People then will no longer be a free people; instead, they will become the subjects of such a government.
To close: WHY do so many of us who are believers in the One God talk so much about politics?
Mostly because we see the abuses that are going on in America today: the Press is no longer “free” in fact, it is “in bed” with many in the government who want to take away our freedoms. We are not getting the truth on Main Stream Media. We the People are being lied to and therefore, have to explore and get the truth from other sources. If we don’t get the truth, then we, being deceived, will make poor decisions in electing our government officials.
We see corruption by many of our legislators in the local, state and national levels. So, WHY do we keep on electing them to office? I suspect it is because we have lost the free Press and no longer can make good decisions as to whom we elect to office. Another, more important reason is that we have become apathetic as a people. We are so involved with our own lives that we couldn’t care less about what is happening on the state and national levels, much less the local level.
I’ll speak for myself. When I was SO busy trying to earn a living and provide for my immediate family, I didn’t pay much attention to what was going on in the national level politics. So, part of the reason this nation is the way it is now is because I didn’t care if it didn’t affect me personally.
I now realize why so many politicians want to disarm all Americans: they would not be trying to disarm us if they weren’t doing something that we would shoot them for. I wonder: 1) what would they do when we are disarmed and 2) once we are disarmed, would any Americans care once they begin to do what they plotted?
Remember: most Germans just looked the other way when they rounded up Jews and put them in the cattle cars to send to the extermination camps.
So, why do I talk so much about the corruption in our politicians and why we as the People need to keep informed about what’s going on?
I, for one, don’t really want to be loaded into a cattle car…
