Masks Have A Few Problems

As part of a homeschool civics class comprised of students in the 7th through 10th grade levels, students were asked to write opinion editorials on topics of their own choosing which reflect current themes in governance and policy-making.  Over the course of the next few weeks the class will be tracking the views of and commentary on their op-eds with the goal of generating as much meaningful community engagement as possible.  A prize will be awarded to the student who is most successful at generating meaningful community engagement with their op-ed. Thanks so much for partnering with us to create this experience for the children and teaching them to be actively involved in the governance of their community!

Masks Have A Few Problems

Masks – do you like wearing them? I believe that they don’t stop the spread of Covid. Masks lower children’s IQ and they change how people treat each other. Covid can’t hurt you unless you’re over the age of 50 or have pre-existing health conditions. You will be fine – ask any healthy young person who’s had it and they’ll tell you they were sick for a few days then got better.

My topic is on mask mandates. Masks have a few problems. One: Unless you have a surgical one on, it’s not going to do anything. Two: You must always have it on around other people or it’s not going to be safe. Three: If you’re not wearing gloves and you pick something up, or touch something, you’re going to put yourself at risk because you can get Covid through your hands. So, if you’re really worried about getting it, stay home. It’s the safest thing you can do for yourself.

Masks may lower your children’s IQ. A new study by researchers at five universities found that babies born during the pandemic may have lower IQ scores than those born before it. Babies who came into the world before the coronavirus had a cognitive score hovering around 100, according to this study, but the test scored of babies born during the pandemic fell sharply, to around 78. That’s 22 points lower than what’s considered normal.

Masks change how people treat each other. When you see someone with a mask on versus someone without one, you judge them like they’re not being safe, or they don’t care about the safety of others. When I see someone wearing a mask by choice, I think to myself “What are you so worried about?” Especially if they have gotten the vax. What’s the point of wearing a mask if someone got the vax. The coronavirus has changed the face of the country, literally most Americans now wear masks when they’re out and about. In many areas, workers and shoppers and public transportation passengers are not allowed the choice to not wear one. The forced face masking of America has changed the landscape of our society at a time when people are looking to one another anxiously for signs of fellowship and hope. (Knock, knock. Who’s there? Seriously, stand back six feet and state your business.)

In conclusion, mask mandates are not only ineffective in stopping the spread of Covid, they are extremely harmful on the development of infants and children and create a negative impact on how people treat each other.
